The new Smith Building is a striking example of success in the National Jewish Health Road Ahead Campaign. Made possible in large part from generous donations from Iris and Michael Smith, the new clinic and research building provides 90,000 more square feet for National Jewish Health to dedicate to innovative patient care and research through this decade and into the next.

Environmental Lung Center
Upon joining National Jewish Health in 1978 as the Chair of the Department of Medicine, Dr. Reuben Cherniack developed the concept of the Environmental Lung Center to challenge the scientific community to better serve the field of environmental and occupational pulmonary disease. To accomplish his goal of combining strong, basic research and clinical programs, Dr. Cherniack formed a new Division of Occupational Medicine while also promoting such new initiatives as the Specialized Center of Research program in interstitial lung disease-a program that strengthened the institution's mycobacterial and asthma research.

NJ4kids: Dedicated Care From America's Best
"With NJ4kids, we have created an environment in response to the increasing demand for treatment of asthma, atopic dermatitis, food allergies, rhinitis , and recurrent infections - all diseases that are increasing at alarming rates throughout the country. The new program is about enhancing our capabilities to make it better for patients and their families. This will translate into better patient tracking, diagnostic testing, individualized therapeutic interventions, and outcome monitoring. Our goals are to grow as leaders in these areas as well as bridging clinical and basic research."
- Erwin Gelfand, MD
