Living With Bronchiectasis

What are your responsibilities in managing bronchiectasis?

  1. Give up smoking and avoid exposure to passive smoke. Ask your healthcare provider for techniques to help you give up smoking. Learn more about how to give up smoking.
  2. Get a flu shot every year in the fall. Get a pneumococcal vaccine every 5 or 6 years as recommended by your healthcare provider. Learn more information on influenza and the flu shot.
  3. Exercise regularly as directed by your healthcare provider. This helps you breathe easier by improving your muscle strength and tone and helps improve clearing the mucus from the airways.Learn more about exercise.
  4. Eat a well-balanced diet and drink plenty of fluids. Learn more about eating well.
