Alliance with Siemens Advances Imaging, Diagnostic Capabilities

In a move to assure leadership in the emerging practice of personalized medicine, National Jewish has formed a strategic alliance with Siemens Medical Solutions, a world leader in medical imaging and diagnostics. Together the two companies will take advantage of advanced knowledge in genomics, proteomics, and information technology to develop novel imaging and diagnostic technologies.

“This alliance with Siemens is a huge step forward for National Jewish,” said Greg Downey, MD, Executive Vice President of Academic Affairs. “To be partnered with one of the top medical imaging companies in the world is going to be a major advance for both our faculty and our patients.

“Working with Siemens gives us the potential to transform the practice of medicine from a reactive model to a proactive one.  The state-of-the-art technology allows physicians to provide care based on the unique characteristics of each patient.”

Siemens technology is now integrated throughout the institution to help diagnose respiratory, cardiac and rheumatologic diseases. Especially important is the Institute for Advanced Biomedical Imaging™, where much of the patient care and collaborative research planned for this alliance is conducted.

The Institute for Advanced Biomedical Imaging™, scheduled to open this spring, will house a Siemens computed tomography (CT) system, a positron emission tomography-CT (PET-CT) system, and a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) system. Additional imaging technologies will arrive to the Institute in coming years. Key to the long-term development of this vision is an integrated radiology information system (RIS) and picture archive communication system (PACS) solution.

“This gives us outstanding tools for imaging including the best three-dimensional imaging capabilities in the nation,” said Will Cook, Director of Imaging Services at National Jewish. “We now have the ability to dig deeper into each patient’s individual condition and customize solutions to their situation.”
