Special Events Break Fundraising Records

Special events in support of National Jewish have enjoyed a record-breaking 2007-2008 season.

In San Antonio , National Jewish honored former San Antonio Spurs basketball star David Robinson with the 2008 Humanitarian Award at a luncheon attended by more than 300 guests. Business magnate Red McCombs served as the emcee, and Peter Holt, Chair and CEO of the San Antonio Spurs, chaired the event, which raised more than $170,000. A special thanks to Edith McAllister, who did so much to make this event a success. At the luncheon, Dr. Salem announced the naming of The Robinson Family Learning and Technology Center at the Kunsberg School .

The Los Angeles Professional Services Dinner raised nearly $390,000, a record-breaking amount, on February 23rd at the Langham Huntington Hotel and Spa in Pasadena . More than 460 guests turned out to honor Vicky Balmont of Wachovia Capital Finance and Robert Lewin of CIT Commercial Services.

The Financial Industries Dinner in New York , also broke its previous record, raising more than $670,000. More than 900 guests honored Robert J. Arth of Bank of America Business Capital. Also in New York , at the Real Estate and Construction Industries Dinner Dance, Marty Cohen, CEO and Co-Chairman of Cohen & Steers, was honored with the National Jewish Medical and Research Center 2007 Humanitarian Award.

Not to be outdone, the 2008 Beaux Arts Ball, “Hollywood in the Rockies ,”raised a record-breaking $2.2 million. The 1,250 guests danced to the music of Hollywood star Gary Sinise and his Lt. Dan Band. Dr. Salem, National Jewish President and CEO, paid tribute to the Grand Marshals: Jeff and Carole Schwartz, Marty and Marie Herzog, Harvey and Sue Allon and Tom and Margie Gart.

Four hundred and fifty sports fans raised $150,000 while enjoying the NCAA basketball semi-final games during the 2008 Hoops and Hoopla at Invesco Field at Mile High on April 5. Team Greiner, composed of David Greiner and Kevin Eitniear of Greiner Electric, and Rick Pastor of Wesco, came away with the fundraising champion’s trophy for raising $60,000 at the event.
