Bronchoscopy

Bronchoscopy is a procedure whereby a fiber optic or digital scope is inserted through the nose or mouth into the pulmonary tree/lungs to perform diagnostic and/or therapeutic procedures. PPS staff set up the equipment and assist the physician during the procedure.

Bronchoscopy is commonly performed to evaluate the structure and patency of airways, remove secretions and/or foreign objects and collect lung tissue specimens.

Ordering physician obtains complete patient history and exam prior to procedure. Patients are given preparation/discharge instructions and asked to arrive 1-2 hours before actual procedure time. Patients are discharged the same day.
