I'm a father of five, grandfather of 20, married 50 years. I grew up in a town called
El Monte, California. I'm the ninth out of 11 children. I always seemed to have a job,
paper route. I worked in a trophy manufacturing plant during high school. I became a CPA because
I was good at math. Being an accountant, you could do other things because it's a good foundation
for business in general. I served as a CFO for three different companies. I'm semi-retired now.
I still am employed by the Act I group. I would say the secret to a good marriage,
and you've all heard it before, is basically comes down to two words. Yes, dear. My wife's
name is Heidi Hoyle. When I married her, people say I won the jackpot. She was a beauty queen.
She was active in school, a very compassionate person, service-oriented. Anybody that knows her
thinks she's great, and she is. I'm passionate about being a granddad.
It was fun and challenging raising children. I would say my wife was responsible for 99 percent
of that, but now that they're married and with their own children, the grandkids are fun,
and they range from age 24, the oldest grandchild, to age four. Expressing love and letting them know
that you love them and are supportive of them regardless of whatever path they choose. I think
family is the most important thing we experience here in this life's journey. A few things about
how amazing my grandpa is. Number one, he makes the best tacos. Best tacos in the world. His jokes
are second to none. I think he's so cool. Hey, grandpa. He's my grandpa. My grandpa is a super
generous and caring person. He's a great family man. He is really inviting for the whole family
to be together. Grandpa is kind. He also always has candy. He gets his donuts in the morning.
We love and appreciate you. You're a great inspiration to me and my family. He's one of my
heroes. I'm so very proud of him for getting this award. Congratulations, dad. I'm being honored
tonight. Congratulations. Congratulations. Congrats. That's why I love him.
I don't have any hidden talents, but one thing that people don't know,
I spent a lot of time in the car, for example, and I'll play some classical music
and I'll lead the music. Like the Seinfeld episode with the maestro of a secret conductor.
Just call me maestro.
It's an honor to be recognized by National Jewish Health. The talent of the people that work here,
the type of work that's going on, blown away. It's just an awesome facility. I was impressed
as I walked the halls and looked in the rooms. All the philanthropists that have donated to
make this facility possible. My parting comments would be thank you for your support. Appreciate
your friendship. I am impressed by National Jewish Health and I would recommend that
we all give serious consideration to philanthropy for this organization going forward.
