$2.9 Million Raised to Benefit National Jewish Health at 44th Annual “A Winter’s Evening”
Gala Creates Fund for Research and Treatment of Pediatric Asthma and Allergy at Nation’s Leading Respiratory Hospital, National Jewish Health
NEW YORK, NY —
Leaders in the real estate and construction industries honored prominent New Yorkers Klara and Larry Silverstein at “A Winter’s Evening” dinner dance on Saturday, Dec. 14. The 44th annual gala raised $2.9 million to benefit the nation’s leading respiratory hospital, National Jewish Health. Mr. Silverstein, president and CEO of Silverstein Properties Inc., was a founder of the event that has become the highlight of the industries’ social scene.
More than 1,100 people attended the gala and applauded as “A Winter’s Evening” Co-Chairs Lisa Silverstein and Roger Silverstein presented their parents with the National Jewish Health Humanitarian Award. This award was first given to Mr. Silverstein 35 years ago, and was bestowed upon the couple this year to honor their decades of dedication to National Jewish Health. Mr. Silverstein is a member of the institution’s Council of National Trustees and serves as Treasurer of its Board of Directors. Both Mr. and Mrs. Silverstein continue to support the mission of the leading respiratory hospital in the nation in many ways, including introducing others to the institution and encouraging their support.
Proceeds from this year’s gala will fund The Klara and Larry Silverstein Fund for Pediatric Asthma and Allergy Research and Treatment at National Jewish Health. Asthma and allergy affects millions of children throughout the country.
In addition to honoring the Silversteins, guests at the event recognized Wendy Siegel, who has served as executive chair of “A Winter’s Evening” since 1984. Under her stewardship, the event has raised nearly $37 million over the past two decades. Mrs. Siegel and her husband, Stephen, are co-chairs of the National Jewish Health Council of Trustees. To honor her decades-long dedication to National Jewish Health, attendees established The Wendy and Stephen Siegel Fund for Leukemia Research at the institution.
Last year’s honoree, Robert J. Ivanhoe, global real estate practice chair of Greenberg Traurig LLP, was inducted to the National Jewish Health Council of National Trustees at the event. The council is a group of more than 200 community and business leaders from across the country who work to raise awareness and support for the institution.
