Man and woman sharing an embrace and smileWhen you’ve been diagnosed with a serious illness, it can be helpful to talk with friends and family members. Sometimes it is beneficial to talk with people who have the same health issue. Support groups offer you time to meet and talk with other people with the same disease, to receive educational information and to learn about other resources that may help you.

Meetings are a safe and confidential place to share personal issues and learn from others’ experiences. Friends and family members are welcome to attend a support group meeting with you. Questions are encouraged — don’t be afraid to ask even the smallest question. Chances are others want to know the answer too!

If you aren’t interested in a support group, but need help coping with your condition, please talk with your doctor about counseling or other types of therapy.
