Interpretation
LAD-1 is an autosomal recessive disorder caused by mutations in CD18, the common chain of the beta-2 integrin family. The beta-2 integrin family is comprised of LFA-1 (CD11a/CD18), Mac-1/CR3 (CD11b/CD18) and p150/95 (CD11c/CD18). Defects in CD18 therefore affect the expression of CD11a, b and c. Reduction or loss of surface expression of the beta-2 integrins supports the diagnosis of LAD-1.
