Critical Care Conference Features Ultrasound Track

Nationally recognized experts in critical care medicine will lead interactive workshops and lectures at the Critical Care Conference, February 5-7, 2014, in Keystone, CO. A hands-on ultrasound track will be one highlight of the conference. 

Sponsored by National Jewish Health in collaboration with Denver Health, the CME/CE conference provides insights on quality improvement strategies, tools, and instruments in critical care units that foster the delivery of effective, reliable, evidence-based critical care. Attendees will network with colleagues and experts during interactive educational sessions, and learn the latest updates on management and treatment options for patients.  The conference will be co-chaired by Stephen Frankel, MD, FCCM, FCCP, Chief of Critical Care and Hospital Medicine at National Jewish Health, and Kenneth E. Lyn-Kew, MD, Assistant Professor of Critical Care and Hospital Medicine at National Jewish Health. 

“Critical care ultrasound has rapidly evolved from a novelty technology to the standard of care for many critical care applications. It is rapidly becoming the first choice to answer questions in an accurate, rapid and repeatable fashion,” said Dr. Lyn-Kew. “The ultrasound track will teach participants about critical care ultrasound in a comprehensive, organized fashion that should allow physicians to incorporate it into their own intensive care units.” 

The track will provide an overview and principles of critical care ultrasonography, specifically pertaining to pleura, lung and deep venous thrombosis; and basic ECHO. According to a recent study, using bedside ultrasound in the intensive care unit instead of chest X-ray or CT scans may reduce radiation exposure and health care costs.

Participants can choose this track or the non-pulmonary track, which covers neuro-critical care, rheumatology/immunology critical care, and critical care of the pregnant patient.
