Winter’s Evening Virtual Event Raises Critical Funds for COVID-19 Treatment and Research at National Jewish Health
NEW YORK, NY —
The National Jewish Health Winter’s Evening virtual event, held Dec. 12, 2020, raised more than $860,000 to help fund COVID-19 treatment and research at the nation’s leading respiratory hospital. This was the 52nd annual event held to celebrate the New York real estate and construction industries. The event also recognized the extraordinary team of National Jewish Health doctors who fought alongside their colleagues at Mount Sinai last spring during the initial COVID-19 surge in New York City.
The funds raised through the event will accelerate more than 80 innovative COVID-19 research projects currently underway. In addition, the funds will support the Center for Post-COVID Care and Recovery, which treats patients from around the country who are suffering the residual effects of the virus.
“We were founded in 1899 to battle a respiratory epidemic, tuberculosis. It required adaptation, innovation, research, and collaboration. Defeating the COVID-19 pandemic is what National Jewish Health was built for, is highly focused on, and the kind of work we have excelled at for more than a century," said Michael Salem, MD, president and CEO of National Jewish Health in discussing the role of National Jewish Health in fighting the pandemic.
As part of the event, Marty Burger, CEO of Silverstein Properties, was inducted as a National Jewish Health trustee. Award-winning Comedian Sebastian Maniscalco entertained.
