New Directions Luncheon in Boca Raton Supports National Jewish Health

Supporters came together at the Boca West Country Club for the popular “New Directions Luncheon” that was held March 4, 2022. This year the event focused on raising awareness about pediatric allergies and asthma and raising funds to support research in these areas at National Jewish Health, the nation’s leading respiratory care hospital.
 

Michelle Bernstein, a James Beard Award Winning Chef and Restaurateur, was the keynote speaker for the event. Bernstein has appeared on Food Network’s “Iron Chef America,” and Bravo’s “Top Chef.”  She is also the host of “Check, Please!  South Florida,” and “SoFlo Taste.”  Judy Levis Krug, speaker sponsor, introduced Bernstein to the group.

Raising awareness for pediatric allergies and asthma is a cause close to Bernstein’s heart as both she and her son suffer from food allergies and asthma. Both conditions are a part of the atopic or allergic march, a progressive development of allergic diseases from eczema to food allergy, hay fever and asthma,  that is vital in understanding asthma and allergy related illnesses in children. National Jewish Health physician-scientists are experts in this area and continue to focus research here to develop new ways to care for children who suffer from these conditions.

Event Co-Chairs included three generations of the Sandler family ladies—Phyllis Sandler, Amy Ross, Robin Rubin, Amy Schnurmacher, Ali Benmen and Brittany Kohn. The Sandler Family are committed to supporting National Jewish Health research efforts in pediatric allergies and asthma, as these conditions run in their family.
