Seth J. Kligerman, MD, MS, Named Chair of Department of Radiology at National Jewish Health

National Jewish Health announced today that following a national search Seth J. Kligerman, MD, MS, has been named Chair of the Department of Radiology. Dr. Kligerman is currently Chief of Cardiothoracic Imaging and Professor of Radiology at the University of California San Diego (UCSD). Dr. Kligerman will assume his new role in early 2023.
  

“Dr. Kligerman is highly respected in the field of radiology for both his clinical expertise and his work in research. He brings tremendous experience, knowledge and leadership, and we look forward to having him lead this key area of our institution,” said Stephen Frankel, MD, executive vice president, Clinical Affairs at National Jewish Health.

In addition to nationally recognized clinical expertise in the interpretation of imaging studies of patients with a variety of thoracic (lung) and cardiac diseases, Dr. Kligerman is a noted researcher. His areas of  interest include the pathogenesis of fibrotic lung diseases, chronic thromboembolic disease, vaping-induced lung injury, and the integration of artificial intelligence into clinical workflows. He has led the UCSD Cardiothoracic Imaging program since 2017.

Dr. Kligerman succeeds Debra S. Dyer, MD, FACR, who is retiring after leading the department for the past 10 years and serving nearly 30 years on the faculty at National Jewish Health. Dr. Dyer joined National Jewish Health in 1993 and later became Chair of the Department of Radiology. Nationally, Dr. Dyer serves a member of the Council Steering Committee of the American College of Radiology as well as the Scientific Leadership Board of the GO₂ Foundation for Lung Cancer. She is also the Co-Chair of the Lung Cancer Task Force of the Colorado Cancer Coalition.

“Dr. Dyer has been a champion for lung cancer screening both locally and nationally during her career,” said Dr. Frankel. “Under Dr. Dyer’s leadership, our Radiology Department has expanded both research and clinical care and been an integral part of the growth of the organization.”

Dr. Kligerman has served as a lecturer in cardiac and thoracic imaging at the American Institute of Radiologic Pathology, is deputy editor for pulmonary imaging at Radiology: Cardiothoracic Imaging, and has served on multiple research committees related to cardiothoracic imaging. He is published widely in his field and is a sought after speaker both nationally and internationally. Before his current role at UCSD, Dr. Kligerman was an associate professor of Radiology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. He completed fellowship training in thoracic imaging at Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School, and completed his residency training in radiology at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. He earned his medical degree from Chicago Medical School. Dr. Kligerman is board certified in diagnostic radiology.
