We want everyone who visits the National Jewish Health website to feel welcome and find the experience rewarding.


What are we doing?

To help us make the National Jewish Health website a positive place for everyone, we've been using the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible for people with disabilities, and user friendly for everyone.

The guidelines have three levels of accessibility (A, AA and AAA). We’ve chosen Level AA as the target for the National Jewish Health website.


How are we doing it?

We're working hard to achieve our goal of Level AA accessibility, but we realize there are some areas that still need improving. The following information explains what we're doing to make that happen.

 

1.Perceivable

We have recognized that the National Jewish Health website does not currently meet Level A or Level AA for the following list of criterion. However, we are actively working to remedy these with the goal of reaching Level AA across the site.

LEVEL A

Success Criterion 1.2.2 Captions (Prerecorded)

We have recognized that our video content does not comply with Level A criteria. The problem was identified as of May 2022. We have developed a plan to address this issue. The plan was executed in December 2022 and work has started towards 1.2.2 Level A compliance.


LEVEL AA

Success Criterion 1.2.5 Audio Description (Prerecorded)

We have recognized that our video content does not comply with Level AA criteria. The problem was identified as of May 2022. We have developed a plan to address this issue. The plan was executed in December 2022 and work has started towards 1.2.5 Level AA compliance.

Success Criterion 1.3.4 Orientation

We have recognized that our video content does not comply with Level AA criteria. The problem was identified as of May 2022. We have developed a plan to address this issue. The plan was executed in December 2022 and work has started towards 1.3.4 Level AA compliance.

Success Criterion 1.3.5 Identify Input Purpose

We have recognized that our video content does not comply with Level AA criteria. The problem was identified as of May 2022. We have developed a plan to address this issue. The plan was executed in December 2022 and work has started towards 1.3.5 Level AA compliance.


Guideline 1.4 Distinguishable


LEVEL AA

Success Criterion 1.4.3 Contrast (Minimum)

We have recognized that our website text and color contrast do not comply with Level AA criteria. The problem was identified as of May 2022. We have developed a plan to address this issue. The plan was executed in December 2022 and work has started towards implementing a new color schema for contrast to comply with 1.4.3 Level AA criteria.

Success Criterion 1.4.5 Images of Text

We have recognized that text images within our website and website assets do not comply with Level AA criteria. The problem was identified as of May 2022. We have developed a plan to address this issue. The plan was executed in December 2022 and work has started towards implementing assets that will comply with 1.4.5 Level AA criteria.

Success Criterion 1.4.10 Reflow

While the majority of pages within the site meet this criteria, we understand that some pages made not be in compliance. We have developed a plan to address this issue. The plan was executed in December 2022 and work has started towards implementing templates that comply with 1.4.10 Level AA criteria.

Success Criterion 1.4.11 Non-text Contrast

We have recognized that our website color contrast does not comply with Level AA criteria. The problem was identified as of May 2022. We have developed a plan to address this issue. The plan was executed in December 2022 and work has started towards implementing a new color schema for contrast to comply with 1.4.11 Level AA criteria.

Success Criterion 1.4.12 Text Spacing

We have recognized that text spacing is inconsistent throughout our website and may not comply with Level AA criteria. The problem was identified as of May 2022. We have developed a plan to address this issue. The plan was executed in December 2022 and work has started towards implementing templates that offer consistent and accessible text spacing to comply with 1.4.12 Level AA criteria.

Success Criterion 1.4.13 Content on Hover or Focus

We have recognized our website and may not comply with Level AA criteria. The problem was identified as of May 2022. We have developed a plan to address this issue. The plan was executed in December 2022 and work has started towards implementing this functionality to comply with 1.4.13 Level AA criteria.


 

2. Operable

We have recognized that the National Jewish Health website does not currently meet Level A or Level AA for the following list of criterion. However, we are actively working to remedy these with the goal of reaching Level AA across the site.

Guideline 2.4 Navigable


LEVEL A

Success Criterion 2.4.4 Link Purpose (In Context)

We have recognized our website may be inconsistent in providing link descriptions and may not comply with Level A criteria. The problem was identified as of May 2022. We have developed a plan to address this issue. The plan was executed in December 2022 and work has started towards implementing this functionality to comply with 2.4.4 Level A criteria.


LEVEL AA

Success Criterion 2.4.6 Headings and Labels

We have recognized our website may be inconsistent in demonstrating proper heading structure within content as well as proper labeling, and may not comply with Level AA criteria. The problem was identified as of May 2022. We have developed a plan to address this issue. The plan was executed in December 2022 and work has started towards templates with proper heading structure included to comply with 2.4.6 Level AA criteria.

Success Criterion 2.4.7 Focus Visible

We have recognized our website may be inconsistent in providing focus visibility and may not comply with Level AA criteria. The problem was identified as of May 2022. We have developed a plan to address this issue. The plan was executed in December 2022 and work has started towards implementing this functionality to comply with 2.4.7 Level AA criteria.


Guideline 2.5 Input Modalities


LEVEL A

Success Criterion 2.5.3 Label in Name

We have recognized our website may be inconsistent in providing proper labeling and may not comply with Level A criteria. The problem was identified as of May 2022. We have developed a plan to address this issue. The plan was executed in December 2022 and work has started towards implementing this to comply with 2.5.3 Level A criteria.


 

3. Understandable

We have recognized that the National Jewish Health website does not currently meet Level A or Level AA for the following list of criterion. However, we are actively working to remedy these with the goal of reaching Level AA across the site.

Guideline 3.3 Input Assistance


LEVEL A

Success Criterion 3.3.1 Error Identification

We have recognized our website may be inconsistent in providing proper and understandable identification of errors when a user interacts with the site. It does not comply with Level A criteria. The problem was identified as of May 2022. We have developed a plan to address this issue. The plan was executed in December 2022 and work has started towards implementing this to comply with 3.3.1 Level A criteria.

Success Criterion 3.3.2 Labels or Instructions

We have recognized our website may be inconsistent in providing proper labeling and/or instructions and may not comply with Level A criteria. The problem was identified as of May 2022. We have developed a plan to address this issue. The plan was executed in December 2022 and work has started towards implementing a system to comply with 3.3.2 Level A criteria.


LEVEL AA

Success Criterion 3.3.4 Error Prevention (Legal, Financial, Data)

We have recognized our website may require updates to data collection mechanisms to comply with Level AA criteria. The problem was identified as of May 2022. We have developed a plan to address this issue. The plan was executed in December 2022 and work has started towards implementing a system to comply with 3.3.4 Level AA criteria.


 

4. Robust

We have recognized that the National Jewish Health website does not currently meet Level A or Level AA for the following list of criterion. However, we are actively working to remedy these with the goal of reaching Level AA across the site.

Guideline 4.1 Compatible


LEVEL A

Success Criterion 4.1.2 Name, Role, Value

We have recognized our website may be inconsistent and may not comply with Level A criteria. The problem was identified as of May 2022. We have developed a plan to address this issue. The plan was executed in December 2022 and work has started towards implementing appropriate code and templates to comply with 4.1.2 Level A criteria.


LEVEL AA

Success Criterion 4.1.3 Status Messages

We have recognized our website may be inconsistent in providing users proper status messages that align with their interactions with the website. The problem was identified as of May 2022. We have developed a plan to address this issue. The plan was executed in December 2022 and work has started towards implementing a mechanism in order to comply with 3.3.4 Level AA criteria.
