Why Morgridge Academy?
Morgridge Academy is a Colorado Department of Education Approved Facility School. Morgridge Academy exists to service the needs of students who are medically fragile who may not receive the care they need when enrolled at a local neighborhood school. We find that many of our students have missed a lot of school due to their medical needs, and our hope is to change that for the students who enter Morgridge Academy.
We work closely with students, parents and physicians to teach proper self care and medical triggers to students. We teach students how to be responsible for their medical needs and how to self-assess where they are on a daily basis. Students visit the nurses between 1-3 times daily to address their medical needs. After students are medically stable and comfortable at our school, we start to focus intensely on the academics that they are lacking due to school absences. The goal at Morgridge Academy is to get students to a point where they are medically stable and academically back at grade level prior to transitioning back into their local neighborhood schools.
In order to apply for admission into Morgridge Academy, students must meet the following criteria:
Grades K-8
Asthma or other chronic illness within the scope of nursing care delivery at Morgridge Academy (severe food allergies, muscular disorders, diabetes, immune deficiencies, sickle cell Anemia, cystic fibrosis, eczema, juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, etc.)
Failed ongoing therapy and/or substandard school performance related to issues of illness
