Description
Cholesterol, Total - Total LDL and HDL cholesterol, in conjunction with a triglyceride determination, provide valuable information for the risk of coronary artery disease. Total serum cholesterol analysis is useful in the diagnosis of hyperlipoproteinemia, atherosclerosis, hepatic and thyroid diseases.
Collect
Plain red top or SST tube.
Patient Prep
Overnight (12 hours) fasting is recommended.
Pediatric Collection
Minimum volume: 0.1 mL serum
Storage Transport Temp
Offsite: Send frozen serum Priority Overnight via FedEx and in a well insulated container on dry ice.
Stability
Stability after cell separation:
7 days refrigerated at 2-8°C
3 months frozen at -20°C
