Description
Urinary excretion of potassium is increased in primary aldosteronism. It is often increased in dehydration and in salicylate toxicity. Decreased levels are seen in malabsorption.
Collect
24 hour urine
Pediatric Collection
Minimum volume: 1 mL of urine from a well mixed 24 hour urine collection in a labeled polypropylene or similar plastic tube.
Storage Transport Temp
Offsite: Frozen. Send urine aliquot Priority Overnight via FedEx and in a well insulated container on dry ice.
Stability
Analyze Immediately at RT (15-25°C)
48 hours refrigerated at 2-8°C
Notes
24 hour urine sample is the only acceptable sample type.
