Description
Utilized as a pregnancy screen, hCG may reach detectable limits within 7-10 days of conception. hCG is produced by the placenta and reaches a peak between the 7th and 10th week of gestation. hCG is a glycoprotein hormone produced by the syncytiotrophoblast of the placenta and secreted during normal pregnancy.
Collect
Collect a random urine sample. First morning void maximizes result.
Pediatric Collection
Minimum volume: 0.5 mL aliquot from a random urine into a labeled polypropylene or similar plastic tube.
Storage Transport Temp
Offsite: Frozen. Send urine aliquot Priority Overnight via FedEx and in a well insulated container on dry ice.
Stability
8 hours at room temperature.
24 hours refrigerated at 2-8°C
>24 hours frozen at -20°C
