Summary: Good Night, Sleep Tight: Child Sleep Needs



Newborns (0-3 months old)

  • 14-17 hours of sleep per day

 

Infants (4-11 months old)

  • 12-15 hours of sleep per day

 

Toddlers (1-2 years old)

  • 11-14 hours of sleep per day

 

Preschoolers (3-5 years old)

  • 10-13 hours of sleep per day

 

School-aged (6-13 years old)

  • 9-11 hours of sleep per day

 

Adolescents (14-17 years old)

  • 8-10 hours of sleep per day

General guidelines as sleep may vary. Whenever there is some ongoing impairment in daytime functioning, lack of sufficient sleep should be considered as a possible cause.
